The best in anything can be attained only if your wellness is placed in front of anything.
The Sicilian inland may not be easily reachable by transportation which could mean that, arrival of emergency vehicles may be delayed.
WEATHER
Because of its geographical location, Sicily is considered to be a sub tropical island with continuous and unexpected weather changes.
Runners must take all necessary precautions, as recommended, using sunscreen, wind-proof jacket and sunglasses as well as avoiding stopping for photographs at slippery/muddy points, stepping out of the path (follow the GPS route).
Should you lose sight of your path, turn around and try to reach the last seen indication
Routes may pass through dusty fields and muddy terrains which could result in rising sand/mud or pebbles inside your shoes.
Some downhills are extremely slippery. If you decide to use walking poles remember that, using the wrist straps, may hinder the use of your hands to protect the rest of your body.
In case of extreme fatigue or injury that prevent you from continuing your race, but still able to walk, reach your nearest refreshment point and inform the Team. An emergency vehicle will try to reach you as soon as possible to take you back to base camp.
It is a must to offer assistance to runners confronted with injury or difficulty. First, try to find out what the problem is and, if necessary, call for help and stay with the injured person until help arrives. During an alert call, you should give clear and calm instructions about the:
- problem at hand,
- location (landmarks or gps location, if none)
MANDATORY
EQUIPMENT
A list of mandatory equipment may be found here however, of upmost importance is:
- a valid medical certificate signed and stamped by a physician,
- a fully charged smartphone with International roaming enabled and,
- runner’s individual insurance. This is to cover the costs of remote search & rescue operations, medical and repatriation eventualites. We believe that freedom of choice is important and such a policy may be taken with with an insurer of your choice.
The participant’s registration will be annulled in the absence of either of these requirements and no refund will be acknowledged.
